The first teaching
involves: Courage
Each and every Vovinam disciple
must train consistently for a strong physique and to attain expertise in
martial arts techniques. That is the first step to taken by any martial
artist. Once that disciple has reached masterhood, he must have instilled
in himself the Vovinam philosophy and live that philosophy, which is to Live,
Let Live and Live for Others that Constitutes Courage of the Soul. The
martial arts master must take it upon himself to assume responsibility for the
welfare of his Martial Arts Discipline, his People and even Humanity, To
hesitate in doing the right, to retreat in the face of difficulty, and to
resign to idleness and self-indulgence all mean lacking in courage of the Soul.
To live the martial arts way of
life, we must know how to use our firm hands to crush any selfishness and
cowardice in our very selves. Only then do we find ourselves worthy of
serving society.
The second teaching
involves: Harmony Jealousy
and arrogance are doses of poison that kill the heart. Those are the
enemy of the martial artist. Love will bring about love and respect; harmony
will bread trust and sincerity. Those are the core of a stable community
hence the foundation for world peace.
