Dear friends, Thank you for your support to the Australian Team attending the VOVINAM Viet Vo Dao International Tournament that was held in San Jose, CA, USA on 4-5 July 2008 & the learning trip in Vietnam.

The Australian Team came third in the overall medal counts. They won medals in 13/14 events.
In Vietnam, the students trained at the Grand Master Club under the guidance of Master Nguyen Van Sen (My current instructor); District 8 - I believe this is the world best technical club; At Dam Sen Park, they learn the Tai Chi form of VOVINAM under the guidance of Master Nguyen Chanh Tu; At the second Sports Institute, Tu Duc Univeristy - they train with delegates from Laos, Cambodia, Brunei and Thailand; and at Phu Dong Club, District 6, they mixed and learn the nanchucku (made famous by Bruce Lee) and the drangon dance. we barely have any rest.
Our day start at 5am Tai Chi class at Dam Sen. 8.30am at the Grand Master's club. In the evening at District 8 on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. One visit Phu Dong - famous for the VOVINAM Dragon Dance group - Master LE Dinh Phuoc teaches dragon dance to delegates from all parts of the world. Master Phuong also help the less fortunate young people in District 6. Most of his students are poor so no training fees are collected. Most of his students are learning to make dragon dance and perform at social and community functions for an income. This dragon dance group perform on Sundays continously for 19 years at Dam Sen Theme Park. The money collected from the dragon dance is the income for the club and for the instructors at this club.
The Australian Team members were warmly welcome where-ever we travel. The youn people were great ambassadors for Canterbury & Bankstown regions; Sydney, NSW and Australia. I am sadden by the fact their good attitudes and behaviours could not be shown so that a bigger audience can be appreciated. All the clubs and people they met wanted them to come back to train with them because of their good behaviours and positive attitudes.
Whilst on this matter. I would like you to help me form a group of students to train for the Asian Indoor Games. I believe, for 12-15 months of regular and intensive training, the students can compete in the 2009 Asian Indoor Games and win medals. There are 48 countries participated. Some of the countries are: Lebanon, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Syria, India, Palestine, Pakistan or all contries in Asia.
I believe, there is a lack of females participate in a number of events and we can do well if we have special training (techincal training for competitions) for people in our region. The students can choose to represent Australia of countries they or their parents borned.
VOVINAM - Viet Vo Dao Sydney is the 497th member of the Australian Martial Art Industries member. So we can nominate people to represent Australia.
If the team we form or the people we formulate need more training in Vietnam, I can organise for the team to travel to Vietnam to train or invite Masters from Vietnam to come to Australia to train us. If this we/you believe they can improve with other intructors than me. I am open to all suggestions and ideas.
At the moment, I would have some students in training for the Asian Indoor Games. But this group will predominantly represent Australia. I would have 2 students that can represent Iraq - I have asked them, but they said they want to represent Australia.
Regarding the Asian Indoor Games, I would also like to ask you to help with fund raising for this trip. I know it is 12-15 months away. But to send a delegate would cost a lot os money. I would like the idea of car wash at Parry Park (near the tennis courts) if council allow us to do this. Parents and VOVINAM students can do this on week ends. Other talk about selling chocolate and cakes stall etc.
The Cant - Bankstown Torch has taken pictures of the kids + interview them for an article this Wednesday. The Honourable Tony Stewart, Deputy Speaker of NSW Parliament House & Member for Bankstown has organised for the kids to take Pictures with him.
Thank you for your support and to keep you inform.
Yours in sports,
Samuel Nguyen.
